Opened in February 2014, The Gaslight is a welcoming and unpretentious bar and restaurant in the historic Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia. Both chefs at the helm of The Gaslight cut their teeth in beloved local restaurants. Executive Chef Jason Cichonski has been notably celebrated for his Queen Village haunt, Ela, while Chef de Cuisine, James Fujioka, honed his craft in the kitchens of Il Pittore, Stateside, and Ela.
While our chefs have backgrounds in refined fare – we’re happy to offer a cozy departure from fine dining. We’re a bar. With really good food. Cichonski and Fujioka invite diners from a broad range of backgrounds and palates to dive into our soulful, elbows-on-the-table pub grub. Diners can expect the high ingredient quality and expert service of a fancier restaurant but can take comfort in the homey atmosphere of the corner taproom. “We want it to be accessible to everyone” says Cichonski. Guests will find familiar bar favorites like burgers, chicken wings, and french fries while more persnickety palates can delight in sumptuous bistro small plates like beef tartare with bone marrow crostini and skate wings in chipotle-tamarind glaze. We feature seasonal, local, and homemade ingredients whenever possible.
The bar at The Gaslight is always bustling with neighborhood locals, savvy restaurant industry folks just off their shift, and diners looking for a memorable meal in a casual atmosphere. We offer a rotating lineup of craft brews with 18 unique tap handles to please even the most particular of hop-heads. Whether you’re joining us at one of our two bars or in our dining room – you’ll never be underdressed in jeans and a t-shirt. And the game is probably on. Swing on by. We’d love to see you.
